parashah Bamidbar
Tribal flags in the Machane
Starting a new sefer! Sefer Bamidbar. This parsha has lots of lists and numbers but it also introduces the concept of the 12 tribes and the design of the encampment in the desert which is fun and interesting.
My daughters are familiar with the concept of the 12 sons from Parshat Vayetze so I now wanted to introduce them to the concept of the twelve tribes that descended from those original twelve. To start we looked at pictures of how the Machane (camp) was laid out.
Then you start flag making. I found these great little images of
the tribes' symbols, printed, cut them out and laminated .Then
attached them onto barbecue chopsticks To illustrate how the tribes were arranged around the Mishkan we took a rectangle of foam, glued in the center an image of the Mishkan and placed all around , in the right order, the flags of the tribes.
This makes for a great project to demonstrate where the tribes were situated.

Yom Yerushalayim clay and mosaic framework
יום ירושלים, Yom Yerushalayim, is an Israeli national holiday commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Israeli control over the Old City in June 1967. The Chief Rabbinate of Israel declared Jerusalem Day a minor religious holiday to thank God for victory in the Six-Day War and for answering the 2,000-year-old prayer of "Next Year in Jerusalem".
Yom Yerushalayim begins in the Diaspora on: Sat, 19 May 2012 at sundown (28th of Iyyar, 5772)
The frame is made with mosaic tiles. Give the children a piece of clay and make a rectangle of it, then draw with the children (while the older ones can drawn by themselves),engraving with the tip end of a pencil, a view of Jerusalem. Paint with white acrylic paint and then glue the mosaic tiles to do the frame, pressing well into the clay. Once dry (leave it overnight in the open air) retraced the outlines of the drawing with the colors of your choice . If you like glue the picture on a thin wood base or support.

parashah Bechukotai
If you walk in My statutes...
The word chok ("statute" or "decree"), which gives the Parshah of Bechukotai its name, literally means "engraved".
The Torah comes in two forms: written and engraved. On the last day
of his life, Moshè inscribed the Torah on parchment scrolls. But this
written Torah was preceded by an engraved Torah: the Divine law was
first given to us encapsulated in the Ten Commandments, which were
etched by the hand of G-d in two tablets of stone.
So for parashah Bechukotai we decided to engrave the letters of Shemà Yisrael into modelling clay, like on a stone.

Lag b'Omer collage bonfire
It's a last minute project for Lag b'Omer. You just need to have some black paper and scraps of fire colored paper, cardboard or magazines pages. Then your children are ready for a creative bonfire collage session. You possibly can use for the fire shape some foil incorporeted into the collage,or some real wood sticks as an alternative to popsicle sticks.
thanks for the idea to to creative jewish mom

a little mitzvot jar
In Parashat Kedoshim there are lots of nice
sweet mitzvot.
Once you selected a
handful of the most accessible mitzvot in the parashat ( respecting
elders and parents, not speaking lashon hara, loving your brother... ) try a different "mitzvah tree" and create a "mitzvah jar."
A jars to be filled with beans everytime your child perform a mitzvah to
encourage good behavior. When a good deed is done, you’d write it down
on a piece of paper and put a bean the Mitzvah Jar.
Motivate
the whole family to be kind and helpful to others.
No shopping required, just look in the kitchen for a glass container, for example some yogurts are sold into glass containers...
Glue on it a mitzvah tree image (you find plenty on Google).
Put some beans into another jar or small vessel and it is ready.
