parashah Shelach 2

The final portion of the sedra is the third passage of the Sh'ma - the portion of Tzitzit. It contains the mitzva to put Tzitzit on the corners of a four-corner garment [386] and that one of the strings of each corner should be dyed t'cheilet, the special blue dye.

Our hand made cotton Tzitzit

parashah Shelach

G-d tells Moshe to send scouts to "spy out" the Land. The emphasis in the wording of the pasuk is on Moshe being the one sending the Meraglim, not at G-d's command nor by his "desire".
The Meraglim map: as every year for parashah Shelach we do a map of Israel. This year we used coloured rice (you can use acrilic paint)
Moshe gives the scouts instructions and an itinerary, hoping that they will return with an encouraging report for Bnei Yisrael. It was the time of the ripening of the grapes...
So then we add the clay made fruits

parashah behaalotecha

In this week's Torah reading, Beha'alotecha, G‑d instructs Aaron concerning the Tabernacle Menorah lighting. The Levites are initiated into the Tabernacle service.
G‑d commands Aaron to light the golden Tabernacle Menorah on a daily basis.
My decided to make a modelling clay and  gold painted menorah, lighted it on a blue paper.
Then you put some glittler on the menorah before the paint dries and it is ready

Parashah Bemidbar

Starting a new sefer! Sefer Bemidbar. As last year we did our Tribal flags in the Machane
This parsha has lots of lists and numbers but it also introduces the concept of the 12 tribes and the design of the encampment in the desert which is fun and interesting. My daughters are familiar with the concept of the 12 sons from Parshat Vayetze so I now wanted to introduce them to the concept of the twelve tribes that descended from those original twelve. To start we looked at pictures of how the Machane (camp) was laid out.
Then you start flag making. I found these great little images of the tribes' symbols, printed, cut them out and laminated .Then attached them onto barbecue chopsticks  To illustrate how the tribes were arranged around the Mishkan we took a rectangle of foam, glued in the center an image of the Mishkan and placed all around , in the right order, the flags of the tribes.
